First speakers TEDxYouth@Amsterdam announced
The first TEDxYouth event on November 20, 2010 – Universal Children’s Day – will happen globally across several different time zones – including in Amsterdam. The science center NEMO provides the backdrop for youngsters to express their ideas, ideals and plans for the future. The day offers inspiring young speakers, action-based workshops and the launch of a groundbreaking global children’s platform. The first speakers have confirmed their contribution, and they are: Jip Maathuis and Sabirul Islam.
Ten-year-old Jip Maathuis sold typically Dutch chocolate letters for War Child. With his initiative he was able to collect over € 18,000 for the War Child Project in Afghanistan. He did this over two years and repeatedly exceeded all expectations. Due to Jip’s chocolate sales, War Child could help out thousands of war victims to be kids again. Jip will speak about his motivations and overwhelming experience. Find out more on www.jipsgoededoelen.nl.
At the tender age of 19, Sabirul Islam is a serial entrepreneur. Starting out as web designer, he has also turned his attentions to stock broking and book writing. Sabirul will passionately share his three ingredients to success with the Dutch youth. Find out more on www.theworldatyourfeet.com.
Participate yourself in interactive workshops
TEDxYouth@Amsterdam is more than a stage filled with inspiration. Participants will all join the interactive workshops to realize their ideals, no matter how big or small they might be. The 200 youngsters can choose from a series of workshops by War Child, Tom & Thomas, dance4life and even more. “This edition is only the beginning. We are going to unleash a comet of inspiration into The Netherlands, you won’t believe! Over 200 enthusiastic young people will be realizing their dreams… I will personally give my all to organize a follow-up even before TEDxYouth 2011”, promises organizer Evelyne Peeters.
TEDxYouth Theme Song
What’s more? Initiator Jim Stolze wrote lyrics based on interviews with children all over the world to a composition by Bas Kennis (Bløf). The song recounts children’s aspirations when they grow up, including how they would change tomorrow’s world today. Dutch youngsters can also star in the music video, which will be shot on September 4th, enabling young people from 40 cities to be connected by music, dance and singing together. If you’re interested in signing up for the video, visit www.TEDxYouth.nl.
