Bas Lansdorp: Airborne wind energy systems

Bas Lansdorp is the co-founder and general director of Ampyx Power. Ampyx Power is testing a prototype of the PowerPlane, a machine to generate power from the wind at lower cost than wind turbines. This novel way of wind energy generation works with tethered aircraft. Ampyx Power is testing a prototype of the system and has performed several successful test flights. Bas previously worked on the Laddermill project at Delft University of Technology. The Laddermill also generates power from the wind at higher altitudes, but uses kites instead of aircraft. At the end of 2008 Bas left Delft University of Technology to found Ampyx Power together with colleague Richard Ruiterkamp
