Studio DRIFT, Fragile Future; design for dreamers

Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta founded studio DRIFT with the vision of creating design that reacts to and questions human behavior. The designers are curious about the future, not only the new technologies that are changing design, but also the evolutionary developments in nature and human culture. DRIFT strives to find the perfect combination of knowledge and intuition, science fiction and nature, fantasy and interactivity. Their goal is to create a dialogue between the viewer and the objects they create, embodied in tangible objects that refer to realities that are often impenetrable and difficult to understand.

In their project ‘Fragile Future’ they fuse real nature with LED technology and electronics. Fragile Future represents an idea about our time. It is a search for balance between technology and nature, high tech – low tech, man and its environment. It investigates possibilities for the future and makes the viewer dream.

Recently ‘Fragile Future’ was added to the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
