David Vogel takes center stage at last year's TEDxAms

TEDxAmsterdam doesn’t only work hard to create an extraordinary speaker line-up; but the audience too is a veritable petri dish of dynamic and innovative sorts. The diverse audience of CEOs, scientists, creatives and philanthropists (and over 4,500 people approached us last year because they wanted a seat) is united in their quest for knowledge and a drive to change the way things are. It’s what makes TEDxAmsterdam such an inspirational experience.

Those are big words, but David Vogel would be the first to agree. Last year, David was one of the three nrc.next challenge winners. On the main stage he presented his ideas on monetizing online newspapers – a vexed question within media cirlces right now. His solution? Allowing readers to take action when reading a news story they wanted to endorse, making an immediate micro-payment online.

His story sparked the interest of many, but one man in particular: Chris Baylis, Executive Creative Director of Tribal DDB. Not only did Baylis seek David out for a chat after the presentation, but the two clicked on the work and ideas front, identifying that they had several similar passions. The pair stayed in touch, and when a job opening at DDB came up, Chris immediately thought of David. Since April, David has fully immersed himself in the Tribal world as Lead UX designer.

“Having been a fan of TED for years, I was extremely excited to not only be at TEDxAmsterdam, but to get a chance to speak as well!  The day was amazing, but I would never have thought my idea would lead me in this unexpected direction and open up these possibilities. My original idea has been on the back burner, but I’m still hoping that it’ll be picked up,” said David.

TEDxAmsterdam is all about putting the right people together to create opportunities; and we love stories like this. Do you have your own TEDxAmsterdam success story that we should know about? Please share them with us by emailing monique@tedxamsterdam.nl
