TEDx lights up the square

Arnout Hulskamp is not your avarage audio/visual artist. He doesn’t stop at bringing images to life, he can bring entire buildings to life using 3D mapping of the specs of the building and projecting real-time CGI special effects, sound, light and colour. The result is a perfect mixture of realism and spectacle.

The award-winning creative (two-time winner of Gouden Reiger award for outstanding projects in the field of audiovisual and interactive media) and his team from studio Aaiqu worked for three months and have made it against all technical difficulties – the complexity of the Stadsschouwburg structure, having to use extreme angle projection, ambient lighting from Leidseplein, using stacked projectors and having to project through glass – this team made the impossible possible and magic was in the air (or on the Stadsschouwburg, to be more precise) while the four-minute 3D video projection displayed on the TEDx location exterior for participants and the general public.

About the video content, Arnout comments: “While still trying to use the full potential of this technique, we tried to make a more poetic and interesting piece, to tell a story, away from other commercial 3D video-mapping projections.” Arnout’s video projection consisted of three characters interacting with a bright light that represents the idea, aimed to express the spirit of TEDx’s idea sharing. A spectacle well worth the -2 degree weather outside…
