TEDxAmsterdam Thought Leaders #1: Robbert Dijkgraaf

Today we’re excited to launch the TEDxAmsterdam Thought Leaders series. It’s designed as a ‘deep dive’ into the worlds that TED loves – namely technology, entertainment and design. But since TED has expanded since it first established itself as ‘the ultimate brain spa’ back in the early 80s, we’ve added other current subjects to the mix too, such as culture, education and science. As we’ve been preparing for the event, we come into contact with a lot of dynamic thinkers and innovators from these worlds. Not all of them can appear on stage, some have spoken before, some will speak this year. In all, it’s a chance to get to know the latest thinking on these subjects.

The first video in the series of 5 is with Robbert Dijkgraaf. Robbert gave a very popular speech at our event last year on understanding the universe from a physics point of view. In this first episode of Thought Leaders, Robbert shares his ideas on the art of science. As the President of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), it is fascinating to hear Robbert speak about the solitary art of science and what sets Dutch scientists apart from the rest of the world (one hint: they like to connect).

We hope you enjoy the series, and stay tuned in the coming weeks before the event for updates.

The videos in this series have been produced, researched and directed by a team of young Dutch creatives:

Klaas Kleiterp – director, editor, cameraman
Tom Strunk – cameraman and editor
Oliver de Leeuw – researcher, interviewer
