After the 30th there is more good to come: TEDxAmsterdamWomen

TEDxAmsterdamWomen logoWith the last additions completing the impressive list of speakers, it’s about time we give a proper introduction to TEDxAmsterdamWomen. From sharing ideas between a happy few in 1984, TED slowly developed into an idea platform accessible for many after they decided to make all TED talks available online from 2007 onwards. In 2009 the independently organized TEDx were added and now TEDWomen is the latest development in the wonderful world of TED.

Marian Spier, also highly involved with the TEDxAmsterdam organization, was so enthusiastic about TEDWomen when announced at TEDGlobal in Oxford last July that she instantly knew that she wanted to organize a TEDxAmsterdamWomen. With only a few months to organize the event at 7-8 December and knowing that good ideas spread fast, she quickly found an “amazing team of volunteers” to set it up.

Passionately Marian continues: “Women everywhere are changing the world. What I’d like to do with TEDxAmsterdamWomen is : create a platform for women to share their ideas and show what they do to RESHAPE THE FUTURE.”

“Although it’s called TEDWomen, that doesn’t automatically make it a feministic event as some may think. We really want to have an event where high-level discussions on substantive topics and ideas are shared, with the overall theme being women.”

TEDxAmsterdamWomen speakers

TEDxAmsterdamWomen is divided into two days. On 7 December, there will be an invite only event for 150 attendees at Sotheby’s. Around 20 male and female speakers will present their ideas on stage, such as well known photographer RVDA, but also RTL Z presenter and moderator of the day Hella Hueck and many others.

On December 8 there will be a free accessible event at Duncan Stuttenheim’s canal house at Prinsengracht. In addition to the live stream of TEDWOMEN in Washington DC, there will also be around 50 three minute TED talks by guests who send in their video. In addition there wil also be a live Skype chat with TEDWomen in Washington, the  TEDxWomen from  Soweto and Singapore, and philosopher Alain de Botton.

The interest for both days has been amazing, and the waiting list is growing. However, the selection of attendees hasn’t been made so you still have a chance to join the very first TEDxAmsterdamWomen. If you want to join the program on the 7th, please email Marian Spier at marian@tedxamsterdam.nl. Want to be there at the 8th, please email Ellen Bokkinga at ellen@tedxamsterdam.nl.
