If you were lucky (or unlucky, as the case may be) enough to be sitting in Amsterdam’s entertainment heart, Leidseplein, last Monday, you will have been witness to a rather odd spectacle.
Just at the moment when the beers were served, and when everybody least expected it, the lights went out! It was as though the new Mayor of Amsterdam had accidentally hit the wrong button at his new desk.
Normally the nerve cell of vibrancy and a beehive of activity in the city, the beating heart of Amsterdam was plunged into darkness.
Then there was a ray of light - pointed in the direction of the Stadsschouwberg, and soon a series of test screens were plastered all over the facade. What happened? Why the darkness and why the light? Unfortunately, there is not much more than we can tell. Just wait for November 30, and all will be clear. Test, test, test…
