Towards a future science and fiction

Hearing the words ‘science’ and ‘fiction’ in the same sentence, we can easily – and readily – recall images from a fantastical cinematic genre, in which visions of the future are portrayed in equal measure as utopia or doom, even a combination of the two.

Man is creator or destroyer, and the stories told in films like 2001: A Space Odyssey or the more recent Avatar, capture the popular imagination with the worlds they portray.

They help us dream of the future in ways that we never thought possible, and it’s in this spirit that the team behind TEDxAmsterdam 2010 proposes ‘Science & Fiction,’ as the unifying theme for a series of future-thinking speakers who will take the stage in Amsterdam this November.

To us at TEDxAmsterdam, Science & Fiction is about ‘open source’ ideas; those that are shared, evolved and which spark new thought and innovation. We see TEDxAmsterdam 2010 as the nexus between idea and reality, and as ground zero for an ever-expanding matrix of thought possibilities. Bold enough? And why not?

On the 30th November, our vision of the future will cover developments in urban life and style, the human body, mind and spirit, and more to fuel your own personal imagineering. The mind is the limit here, and so the question then becomes, are you ready to come along with us for the ride?

With this theme for TEDxAmsterdam2010, it would be super wonderful if you could have Neal Stephenson as a speaker. Please!
