TEDxAmsterdam was held on 30 November 2010 in the Stadsschouwburg, and brought together almost 800 delegates and 30 speakers and artists at the venue. At over 40 locations across the Netherlands, people gathered to witness TEDxAmsterdam live on screen. Part of TEDxAmsterdam was a videomapping projection on the building, the TEDxAward competition and an auction to fund the award winner, and much more. On this page we want to give you an overview of what happened and how it was recorded and shared.

Press attention
We got a lot of attention from the press!
- Check the following video items to get an idea of the press at work at the venue: TEDx een social media hype, Persaandacht voor TEDxAmsterdam I and Persaandacht voor TEDxAmsterdam II,.
- All this resulted in a lot of media attention. To mention just a few selected items, coverage this year included TV, with Jim Stolze and Wim Hof in Dutch TV show De Wereld Draait Door, live reports throughout the day on business TV channel RTL-Z, and a TV report with interviews on channel AT5. Radio: live reports from the venue by Business Nieuws Radio and NOS radio with an item on the 3D Simulcast. Online coverage, with a special section on Nu Zakelijk, and extensive reports by a.o. Netkwesties, Frankwatching and Marketingfacts. And of course the TEDxAmsterdam blog team did a superb job by publishing their report for each speaker minutes after their talks ended. In print, TEDxAmsterdam was on the cover of Folia, in de Volkskrant and in the Groene Amsterdammer – but there is a lot more to find out from the press page, including reports from bloggers, partners, sponsors and more.
- Social media. Within an hour after the start of the program TEDxAmsterdam was trending on Twitter… we counted 9422 tweets at the end of the day. To get an idea of all the tweets, links, reports and more, check out the mash up organised by our partner VPRO, which also neatly organises tweets and pictures per speaker and more. The mash up page was visited by 15.869 unique visitors on 30 November, who generated 79.960 pageviews.
TEDxAmsterdam in visuals
- Maurice Mikkers and Jan Jaap Heine made gorgeous pictures, that can be found on the TEDxAmsterdam Flickr group. They are published under CC license, so feel free to use them, but do give them credit.
- Daphne Horn and her team made a wonderful Polaroid picture book with images of speakers and some guests. Deloitte and the Impossible project helped to realise this.
- Henri Smeets of C360 Interactive Panorama’s made 5 amazing panorama’s of TEDxAmsterdam that are probably the best way to relive some of the TEDxAmsterdam experience. Move your mouse to see the audience, the ceiling and the speakers all in one image. Available for both Ipad and computerscreen.
- World of Minds mindmapped all the TEDxAmsterdam talks live on MindMeister, and shows the talks in keywords and maps!
Special projects

- In over 40 places in the Netherlands, people gathered for simulcast events, watching TEDxAmsterdam together live on the big screen.
- One very special simulcast event was organised by the Amsterdamse Innovatie Motor, together with Tree On and Dutchview: a live simulcast in 3D. Over 700 people witnessed a part of TEDxAmsterdam in 3D, with 3D glasses on.

Withthe support of artist Arnout Hulskamp and Hulskamp Audiovisueel. Liander kindly provided all delegates with a warm fleece to witness this event.
- The TEDxAmsterdam Challenges, coordinated by Ivana Kowsoleea.and Milan van den Bovenkamp of Lev Kaupas were promoted with a series of beautiful videos. Check out the series here – especially episode 4! The Challenges offered a way for a broad audience to qualify for entry to TEDxAmsterdam

- During TEDxAmsterdam, a special auction was held led by Christie’s Chairman Jop Ubbens, that brought together almost 30.000 Euro for Wind Drinker. TEDxAmsterdam will track progress over the next year and Wind Drinker will present the results at TEDxAmsterdam 2011 on 25 November 2011.
- The New Motion organised a special simulcast event about electric driving, and offered TEDxDelegates the chance to test drive a Tesla.
- All delegates to TEDxAmsterdam received a gift bag full of ”gifts worth sharing”. Irene Rompa, the volunteer who took on this project not only managed to convince all these companies to give away these items for free, she also wrote little poems to go with them.
- TEDxAmsterdam convinced the city authorities to establish a special water tap on Leidseplein, organised by Join the Pipe. The money to fund this tap was brought together by the TEDxAmsterdam audience by buying these lovely water bottles.
TEDxAmsterdam events
TEDxAmsterdam has organised 5 events in 2010, each with their own team of volunteers but always under the guidance of the TEDxAmsterdam board.
- TEDGlobal Live was held in Boom Chicago in Amsterdam, and during 4 days brought together people for a live broadcast of TED Global in Oxford, as well as a series of specials performances and talks at the venue.
- TEDxChange was held at the ABN Amro Dialogues House and brought together 100 people for a live broadcast of TEDxChange in the US. This was followed by pitches from social entrepreneurs in Africa, who then connected with the audience in round table sessions to build up new support networks.
