A coral reef called Zoe (with a little bit of help from our friends)

Dear reader, this post is not about us, but is still meant for you. You know that TEDxAmsterdam is part of TED.com, and you have probably found yourself watching TED-talks that inspired you, moved you, changed you – or simple entertained you? If you agree, please continue reading and find out how you can create that TED-effect yourself and direct it toward one specific goal.

Chris Anderson became the curator of the TED Conference in 2002 and has developed TED as a platform for identifying and disseminating ideas worth spreading. He was the one who decided to put all the TED videos online and truly open up TED to the public. He also allowed us, and other cities, to independently organise TEDx events. In a great talk of his own, he explains how the rise of web video is driving a worldwide phenomenon he calls crowd accelerated innovation. Now you know this, you probably realize you have, in some way, profited from his bold decision to share TED with the world.

We owe Chris Anderson for sharing TED so generously with us. It’s time to let him know. Why now, I hear you think?

In December 2010, Zoe Anderson, his 24-year-old daughter, died tragically of carbon monoxide poisoning. Online you can find a tribute to Zoe’s life and a Facebook Memorial page. To keep Zoe’s spirit alive, Chris and his family have created a fund to preserve a coral reef in her name. It’s a living tribute to her life, and to this wondrous aquatic ecosystem that captured her imagination.

So – you could hear it coming: let’s help them!

Donate a little bit of money to realize the preservation of a coral reef. Donate to show Chris that TEDxAmsterdam cares. Donate to know for sure that somewhere in the ocean, there is something of untouched splendor because of you. Do it now!

Be part of this shared gift to the world: an oceanic reef as beautiful, alive and important as Zoe Anderson was to her family.
