Last year, world-class opera singer Claron McFadden took the stage for a TED-talk about the meditative power of singing. Her talk made it to TED.com. Today, she walked her talk and mesmerized the public by using her voice as an instrument, together with the cutting-edge Artvark Saxophone Quartet!
Meet Claron McFadden, world-class opera singer and the Artvark Saxophone Quartet. McFadden proved today, again, to be more than well-worth the grand Stadsschouwburg stage. So did the saxophone quartet. Together, they stretch the boundaries of classical music, with their show ‘Sly Meets Callas’, previously performed at the Grachtenfestival 2011 in Amsterdam.

For this performance, McFadden took up her pen and made her debut as a songwriter, whereas the four gentlemen from Artvark took responsibility for the music. As a quintet, they meander through musical traditions, literally moving across the stage while playing, letting McFadden’s steps follow the whims the music. The saxophones as a voice, taken over by the voice as an instrument. In their last piece, the public is asked to co-perform, and keep the beat. Chakka-chakka-chakka..
