Who is Hermine Deurloo?
In the hands of Hermine Deurloo, the harmonica becomes a fully fledged jazz instrument. Initially inspired by Toots Thielemans she has developed an original sound on the harmonica. She plays self-styled jazz with among others drummer Han Bennink and musicians of the New York downtown-scene. She also performs with large orchestras and can be heard in movie soundtracks. As a member of the Willem Breuker Kollektief she has toured all over the world. With her new band she plays her own music as well as compositions by Tony Overwater. She recently recorded film music, especially written for her by Austin Wintory for a new Hollywood movie.
Why should you listen to her?
Hermine Deurloo is an internationally known jazz chromatic harmonica player from Amsterdam, who developed an original sound on the harmonica. In October 2012, her latest CD, ‘Glass Fish’, was released. At TEDx she will share with us her unique sound playing ‘Oktober in Oosterpark’.
