In 2009 TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

Our event is called TEDxAmsterdam, where x=independently organized TED event. At our TEDxAmsterdam event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will be combined to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. Our team consists of over 100 volunteers who all support TEDs motto “ideas worth spreading”.

TEDxAmsterdam is also heavily involved in other TEDx-events. In 2010 we organized a TEDGlobal viewing party, a TEDxChange Dinner, a TEDxYouth Event and a TEDxWomen Event at Sotheby’s.

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world, and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

Jim Stolze -who was a speaker at TED2009- was granted the TEDxAmsterdam license and was later asked to join as an TEDx Ambassador for the Europe region.
