Don't lose track with these mindmaps
Since the first TEDxAmsterdam in 2009 the ‘livemindmappers’ from World of Minds, Hypershifters and aHa!Coaching have facilitated the ‘livemindmap’ broadcast of the talks of several TED events in The Netherlands and the simulcasts of TEDGlobal. When broadcasting a livemindmap all online TEDx fans can see a mind map form simultaneously with the (video of the) talk.
A live mind map is a visual map picturing the main and subtopics of the talk in a structure that allows you to keep an eye on the ‘big picture’ while watching or listening to the (details of the) talk. Check out our 2011 interview in 2011 with Jerre Lubberts about the process of creating a Livemindmap (TIP: check the link in the article for the visual mapping crash course) and have a look at the mind maps of TEDxAmsterdam 2009, 2010, 2011 and TEDGlobal.
Many TED fans worldwide provided the team of World of Minds with feedback on how to take this one step further. Alexis van Dam (hypershifters.com) and Mathieu van del Wal (aHa!Coaching.nl) organized the feedback and started a brainstorm resulting in three new ideas. During TEDxAmsterdam 2012 we are going to execute these ideas.
1) Extra content during the talk directly into the map?
The first idea is adding a third livemindmapper who will listen closely to the talk searching for subjects mentioned by the speaker. Whenever interesting content is found on the web he or she will add the links directly into the livemindmap. This way the viewer will be able to click on links in the mind map revealing extra content such as links to video’s, photo’s, websites, survey’s and so on.
In the left browser the video broadcast and the right simultaneously the live mindmap broadcast
2) Idea Donation Centre; Ideas Worth Doing!
The TEDGlobal blog about the ‘TEDGlobal Idea Donation Center’
The second idea is to facilitate the interaction with the viewers and help them to associate freely and find other viewers to get inspired, come up with their own ideas and start going from ‘Worth Sharing’ to ‘Worth Doing’. For this purpose we will set up a separate live mind map in which we can capture live tweets (#myTEDidea) using MindMeister and aHa!Coaching.nl technology. We will cluster the ideas in the mind map and add the 5W plus H questions (What, Why, Who, When, Where and How) to help take the idea to the next level. Check out the pilot we did with TEDxBinnenhof.
3) Meta mindmap; Connection of Minds
- Metamindmap of TEDxRotterdam 2010
After the TEDxAmsterdam event our team will go through all the mind maps of the talks looking for links and meta data. We first piloted this during TEDxRotterdam and found common themes like Thinking differently, Technology and trends, Poverty, Health and so on. After connecting them we build a clickable ‘metamindmap website’.
This week we will finish setting up the websites for the livemindmap stream and the Idea Donation Center so please stay tuned for the links later this week.
