She talks about how, as a child, she ran away from home and stood up to her uncles to escape forceful female genital cutting and early marriage. This was one of the many steps she has taken to “become the girl of her dreams.”
Her bold and very personal story is an inspiration. And it’s contagious. She’s already managed to save 150 Masai girls from female circumcision, and helped them go to school. She continues to educate and help Masai girls, and has even been able to share her views with the feared and revered Morans tribe who usually do not even speak directly with women. Today, she continues her efforts to educate fellow Kenyan women, and is working on a project with AMREF’s Unite for Body Rights with support of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She’s also pursuing a degree in Health Systems Management. Nice Nailantei is a true change agent who inspires and helps other girls become the “girl of their dreams.”
