Rules of the challenge
It’s pretty simple: TEDxAmsterdam is about ‘ideas worth spreading,’ and our TEDxAmsterdam Challenge is about ‘ideas worth doing!’ We challenge you to do something good in your local community, your city, the Netherlands, or the world. Take your pick.

  • Your chosen project has to be undertaken in the period between 29 June until the 19 October.
  • To verify the project, you must document it with some authentic proof. We’re looking for a newspaper or published article, clear photos, a short movie clip, or testimonials on film. Be creative.
  • The TEDxAmsterdam Challenge is free for everyone of every age to join. Our event is international, so entries must be in English.
  • Entries must do good for someone, some place or something in your local community, city, the Netherlands or the world.
  • Entries can be individual, group, or nominated by a 3rd party.
  • Entries close on the 19 October.
  • Voting takes place from 19 October
  • Winners will be announced on the 9 November.

Extraordinary Ones

I have set up a new concept called Extraordinary Ones. Imagine that every time when you buy a meal you also feed a child and what that means for hunger in the world. When you eat, They eat. In Netherlands we sell more then 3 million meals every day in our restaurants. It costs just 20c, it makes no difference to us but could change somebodies live. In september we start a campaign to via media to get 1000 restaurants to become member before christmasIt is a simple idea which could really transform what we are doing and everyone can take part. Spreading the tools of creative production!

I've built a RepRap 3D printer that can make useful physical objects, including many parts to make another 3D printer. With it, I've fabricated the parts for three more 3D printers. One of them is shared with others who also want to have a 3D printer. They can learn from operating my 3D printer and they can fabricate themselves another set of parts to and another one for a friend. This helps spread this creative and magical technology that allows you to turn your ideas into physical objects. Examples application are many, and include household, personalized and engineering items. http://bit.ly/3dpVid My loaning program: http://blog.erikdebruijn.nl/archives/139-Eriks-RepRap-for-loan!.html http://www.reprap.org/ I've also donated a full set of parts to a public hobby space in Lisbon. They will use it to make more machines for spaces in other cities.Furthermore I'd like to keep improving the technology, ease of use and lower the cost.

Connecting doctors to patients peer to peer

Develop a platform where patients in developing countries that need diagnosis can receive it via an online platform. Acreditated doctors offer a small percentage of their time to go through personal profiles where patients present their sympthoms. Specialized doctors can scroll and choose the patients they decide they can clearly give a diagnosis. There is no economic exchange but knowledge exchange. Patients pay a small fee to sustain the platform, they receive professional diagnosis. Doctors receive an emotional value by contributing to improving someone's life from their desk.I believe there is something interesting in the idea that is worth spreading

Eumedianet - the city as an interface

Eumedianet - The city as an interface. Creating a multilingual medianetwork in the Euregion, Belgium-Netherlands an Germany. The network consists of urban screens (inner- and outer), mobile and web channels with interactive components. The network connects the real and virtual city with quality content, often made by local creatives. The network should vitalize inner cities (place-making), linking the cities in the Euregion and are means to promote safety, and support events. The base of the network are innovative single source publishing models using data models for the interpretation of human behavior and trending topics. Social media is going to be used for interactive concepts in combination with urban screens. The organization is a open organization with space for local creatives, cultural and art projects, and entrepreneurs. See for more: www.transmedianetwork.comHelp us with this ambitious plan to make it work and co-create this innovative medianetwork together with us.

An easy way for students to make a change!

Setting up a foundation where students are able to support other students in developing countries with paying their college fees. Starting with a pilot year with the goal to support 10 local students in Somaliland to start in medical school. (Hopefully expanding to different countries and studies in the future) By using online profiles, blogs and email interaction not only do students in the Netherlands (student donors) get a chance to contribute directly to the life of another student (local students), they also develop themselves by interacting with students from different cultures and backgrounds by sharing information, sharing knowledge and sharing idea's. Eventually student donors could be involved in training and supporting the local students by visiting them.Students are the future leaders! Getting student involved in making a difference will lead to sustainable change! Your knowledge will help

Happy Village School

We are building a village school in Malaysia with 10 acres of land. This is a school of doing that embrace social community values, nature, heritage and sustainable technologies. We will run a 3 Day 2 Nights program: First day, the students will live together as a community with no electricity, no water utilities, little amount of resources and food. The only objective is to learn how to stay happy as a community. The idea is not to make them suffer but appreciate and be creative. Second day, they will be given a bit more resources, they will have to learn how to handle abundance. They start to give by teaching the local community English and basic skills. Last day, they will have even more resources to an extend that they need to handle greed and selfishness inorder to maintain the harmony of a community. All this happen in a eco-village with experiments of sustainable technologies from research center that the students can share with the locals. We will do our best for your participation in creating this new experience TEDxTemasek Program to be as sweet as possible.

Magneet Festival

No spectators, only participators!
