TEDx is all around us
Every year, the five TEDxAmsterdam teams do their utmost best to put together an amazing day full of inspirational talks by special people, for a special audience. As fans of spreading ideas, we also like to share our insights on other TEDx events. For example, a part of our crew played a big role in organizing the TEDxSummit in Qatar in April earlier this year. Next to that, some of our crew members were asked to speak at other TED events.
TEDxAmsterdam crew on stage 2011
On November 10, 2012, TEDxAmsterdam team member Jan Scheele will give a talk at TEDxUHasselt. The theme that day is “A change in the universe”. You can still apply for a free ticket on www.tedxuhasselt.eu.
Both in Amsterdam and in Doha, sustainability coordinator Irene Rompa spoke about possible ways to green an event. The most important message she gave was that even though she feels it’s TEDx’s responsibility to take its own environmental footprint into consideration from day one of the planning process as much as possible, “it’s okay to take baby steps” when you begin. She means that even though it is impossible to do everything right at once, if you focus on one thing at a time, in the end you will have improved at lot.
Our sustainability blogger Barbara Putman Cramer was invited to speak at TEDxWageningen last May. Her talk was about the relationship that exists, or should exist, between food, sustainability and design. Barbara believes that we should question our standards of normality in order to really innovate. For her, food is a means to change. Watch Barbara’s video to see why.
Volunteer coordinator Salmaan Sana shared a personal story at TEDxMaastricht in 2011. Salmaan started studying medicine out of his passion to care for people. However, during his study he felt this passion got lost in the process of becoming a doctor. In order to change this, he started a movement called compassion for care.
These very different stories show that spreading ideas is not something that only famous scientists can do. As Carolien Vader explains in ‘our’ TEDxAmsterdam book: ‘Het begint met een idee‘.
Anyone can tell their story on a TEDx stage and with that story, change the hearts and minds of people. So what are you waiting for?
